From plot to keys

Seven steps, in the same order every time.

A house goes up in a fixed sequence. Here is what happens at each step, and what you decide along the way.

  1. Step 01

    Talk and site visit

You tell us how you want to live and what you can spend. We visit the plot to see the slope, the access and what stands next to it.

  2. Step 02

    Design and permits

We draw the house and change it until you agree with it. Then the plans go through the building permit.

  3. Step 03

    Foundation

The house is set out on the ground and the trenches are dug. Footings and the floor slab are cast in concrete.

  4. Step 04

    Structure

Pillars, beams and brick walls go up, course by course. We make these materials ourselves, here in Rwanda.

  5. Step 05

    Roof

The roof frame is fixed and covered. From this point the work inside stays dry.

  6. Step 06

    Finishes

Plaster, floors, doors and windows, kitchen, bathrooms, paint. Wiring and plumbing are tested before anything is closed up.

  7. Step 07

    Handover

We walk through the finished house with you, put right what is not right, and hand you the keys.

In every Bona home

Whatever the type, three things stay the same: what the walls are made of, how they are put up, and the state the house is in on the day you get it.

Brick and concrete we make ourselves

Bricks, concrete pillars and beams come from our own production in Rwanda. We know what goes into the walls because we made it.

Methods we have tried first

We test newer ways of building, such as rapid-setting concrete and modular engineering, and use them where they save time and material.

Finished inside

Floors, doors, kitchen, bathrooms and paint are part of the job. You get a home to move into, not a shell to complete.

Two ways to start

Your plot, or our house.

Path one

Build on your plot

You have land, or you are about to buy it. We visit, design the house with you and build it, step by step.

Path two

Buy a finished home

We also build houses to sell. You choose one, and move in without ever running a building site.

  • Finished inside and ready to live in
  • Monthly instalments with our housing plan
  • The title deed is transferred to your name

Start a conversation

Tell us about your plot.

Or about the house you have in mind, even if there is no plot yet. Write a few lines and we will reply.

The family home

This is what is usual for the type. Your home is designed with you, for your plot. The photo is an illustration, not one of our projects.
